Cash & Carry Mall, Makati City: Let's Unwrap The Secret of "Binalot"

"Making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass and I'm home bound. Staring blankly ahead, just making my way, making a way through the crowd". It was like this song from Vanessa Carlton, like a thousand miles. It was last week when we had to run an errand, we quickly went out of the bus and chose to walk because of the traffic jam just to make sure that we would get to Cash & Carry Mall on time, an unexpected walkathon. We were amid of searching for a much lesser and affordable branded perfumes that time when we decided to crawl for food first. Hahah, just figuratively!
Our eyes roamed around the food court and a unique fast-food caught our attention because of its name 'Binalot'. There were other famous food vendors like Sbarro but due to limited time we sat here with no hesitation, we also felt that it would be lovely idea to have a filipino dishes for our lunch.

This is really a must try! And thanks to my colleague and friend Salie for the treat! (Photo credit to Tham)

So what is 'Binalot'? In Tagalog or Filipino, it means "wrapped", a traditional local method of wrapping and serving dish in the Philippines using leaves, most common is banana leaves and the most popular when styro packed lunch boxes were not yet invented.

Tapa- 119pesos

Although it was a short time when we ate here. It was worth it to try something unique yet taste good foods and really close to the heart of many filipinos even outside the country. It's nice to see a quick service restaurant serving local and very filipino dishes like adobo, tapa, sisig, tocino, longganisa, salted egg, etc., a somewhat outside the box place to eat and different to the usual "one-piece chicken meal". Thumbs up for giving us ultimate filipino food experience. For more details, feel free to check www.binalot.com

Paradise Philippines 2025: Siargao

Para, para, paradise!! Lovely morning, y’all! How’s everyone doing? It’s already May, and so much has been happening lately, office dramas, rotational brownouts, mood swings, the rainy season creeping in, rising inflation, bits of great news, and heartbreaking headlines caused by corrupt politicians. But through it all, you and I still have to keep moving forward, keep showing up, and keep choosing life every single day. That’s probably why little escapes and quiet moments away from the noise feel extra special these days. Today, we’re diving into a new blog post, and I have a question for you: if you were given the chance to escape today — even just for a little while — away from all the responsibilities and stress of the world, where would you go? Would you finally visit the place you’ve been dreaming about for so long? Or would you rather wander off to somewhere random, with no plans at all? More than two years ago, I found myself asking this question: now that I finally had...

Museo San Agustin Intramuros: Tale Of The Oldest Stone Church In The Philippines

It's not fool to say that April month is on its way! Aren't you excited? One more week to go and we need to turn another calendar page. What are you looking forward to? Yey! The long wait is almost over and I can feel the summer here in the Philippines. Without a doubt, one of the things you have on your list this April is "grand vacation". For students, definitely a much longer hours of sleep since officially most are already on school break this time. For catholics, let's not forget that Holy Week falls on April this year. Are you ready for the Visita Iglesia(church visit)? Well, you're maybe still on the process of searching for your seven churches and if I'm correct you might wanna consider  San Agustin Church especially if your route is just within Manila City. Aside from Casa Manila, this is also a must-see place in the Walled City, Intramuros . It was last year when I visited this church for the holy week also and that was the only time I had a ch...

Manila City: Sta. Ana's Tesoros delos Desamparados Festival Grand Procession

Viva! Viva Maria! Viva! Viva Maria! Viva! Viva! A strong, unsynchronized yet passionate cheer was heard from the devotees and parishioners of the image of Our Lady of Abandoned (Tagalog: Ina ng Walang Mag Ampon, Spanish: Nuestra Senora de los Desamparados) when we entered the gate of Sta. Ana Church. Pooshhh! And a colorful confetti welcomed us, fell slowly and freely from the ceiling to the ground. I was near the walkway to the altar when I said "Thank God! (sigh) Finally the procession is over". Ok, you might be thinking what is this all about? It was the flowery and grand fiesta procession I attended last May 12 in Sta. Ana, one of the towns in the city of Manila. I'd say, living here is an advantage for someone who is a culture-seeker, history buff and foodie like me. Old houses, church and great eateries to food crawl. There are streets that will somewhat bring you back to the old style Manila. Grand Fiesta Procession is one of the activities of Tesoros De ...
